Hypothetically Scotland gains independence in 2014 what sort of defence structure would we have?

Should we do a deal with the rest of the UK to keep things more or less the way things are now?

Should we be part of NATO ?

Should we take control of current Scottish defence assets and keep a standing army and one Airbase?

Should we take a radically different course and declare ourselves a  neutral country with a solely defensive capability mainly consisting  mainly  volunteers?

These are tough questions that will have to be addressesed. Personally I’m unhappy that these types of questions are not out in the public domain yet.

The Scottish and UK governments say they are hoping to quickly resolve outstanding wrangles over plans for the independence referendum.

Their comments came ahead of a meeting with First Minister Alex Salmond and Scottish Secretary Michael Moore.

Monday’s meeting will come before face-to-face talks between Mr Salmond and the prime minister.

The two sides have disagreed over arrangements to run the ballot, proposed by the SNP for autumn 2014.

The UK government says new constitutional powers must be devolved to Holyrood to make the vote legal, while Scottish ministers have accused the coalition of trying to dictate the terms of the ballot.

Mr Salmond’s spokesman said he believed there was now “broad agreement” on the referendum timescale.

However, there could be still disagreement over the Scottish government’s refusal to rule out a second question on the ballot paper, on more powers short of devolution, and giving 16 and 17-year-olds the chance to vote.

The first minister’s spokesman, said: “Monday’s meeting is a welcome step forward – and a much better approach by the UK government than the unfortunate attempt by the prime minister at the start of the year to impose the timing and terms of the referendum from Westminster.”

A spokesman for Mr Moore, added: “The secretary of state is optimistic that we can quickly sort out the process side of the referendum and then get on to the real debate about Scotland’s future.”

The big Independence debate is raging at the moment although we still have a good two and a half years to decide.

Many people seem to fear going down this road as they believe that Scotland could not cope financially on their own, my belief is totally opposite. Scotland has a massive revenue in its oil and whisky industry, not to mention future renewables like wind and wave powers. Scotland would be able to cope admirably on its own two feet and we should not be drawn into the scare mongering tactics from the Government down South.

If Scotland was such the scrounger and hanger on as its made out to be then why are they so desperate to hold on to us, could it be because they have actually being living off our oil revenues etc. for so long that they are afraid of what they will lose.

In the coming years the availability of fresh water will be a major issue and of course what does Scotland have in abundance, some people may think this is a ridiculous arguement and of no relevance whatsoever, mark my words, this will be a BIG problem in the future and one of the main reasons why England are so determined to keep us under their thumb.

Vote for Independence ALL THE WAY, Rant over………….

The manner in which the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012 was driven through the Scottish parliament has annoyed football fans of the majority of clubs in Scotland.
Many have accused the SNP government of needlessly criminalising all football fans in a poor attempt to tackle racism and sectarianism in Scottish society. The question is will this resentment linger and influence how football fans vote in a referendum.
Many fans I have spoke to no longer trust the SNP after the way they drove this bill through against the wishes of the majority of fans and opposition parties.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Scotland - The Debate

Do you agree Scotland should be an independent country?

So we finally have the question, now the real debate begins. Now that it’s time to get down to the nuts and bolts of this issue we’ve added a forum to the site to allow everyone who wants to debate the issues to do so in an adult manner.

There are so many questions to be tackled like

• Currency – Euro, English Pound, Scottish Pound ?
• Will we have our own Embassies  or consulates ?
• What Defence forces will we require ?
• How much of the North sea will we control ?
• Will we have our own central bank ?
• What will be our Foreign Policy ?
• Can we fund free health care for all ?
• Should we have an elected head of state?
• How quick can we get rid of Trident and what would be the economic impact if we do ?

These are just some of possibly hundreds of questions that need debated.

If the people do not engage with this debate then we will simply leave the path clear for politicians to play this out in their usual childish self interested manner.

For Everyone living in Scotland this will be the biggest debate of our lives. The future health and wealth of our nation is in our hand so we need to get this right.

Following on the heals of the Hurricane Bawbag Tee shirts the same Glasgow firm have released “I Swung With The Krankies” T Shirts.

This after the revelations by the Krankies on radio Scotland that they loved a bit of swinging…good on them but I don’t fancy yours mate !

The good auld Glesga patter went global yesterday after the hash tag  #HurricaneBawbag replaced the boring #scottishstorm.

#HurricaneBawbag became a global trend on Twitter which lead to millions of people outside Scotland Googling “What is a Bawbag” lol.

Within hours of the hashtag appearing on line outlets were selling Hurricane Bawbag T-shirts, hoodies and other goods by the bucket load.

Just goes to prove that even in the middle of a recession and boggin weather Gleswiegin humour still shines through!

Whats that awe aboot ? The toon’s been shut off round aboot George Square. I hope the local businesses and the cooncil are raking money in for awe this malarkey.

The toon’s full of punters wandering aboot looking for Brad or his wife. I can see Ebay being mobbed with people selling stuff like “This is the chip poke Brad slipped oan” or in the true Gleasga tradition bits of Tarmac that Brad walked oan

It must have been a casting managers dream looking for Zombies in Glesga, ye trip err them walking doon Buchanan street ffs.

Great bit of publicity for Gleasga awe the same hopefully the Americans will realise there is life oot side Edinburgh and you don’t need to dress up like something off a shortbread tin to be Scottish.

The wife was doon taking pictures of trucks and other mince. As soon as I get the pics off the camera I’ll post them and dazzle ye’s with the amazing sight of a truck which I’m sure naebody has ever seen before in Gleasga other than the cooncil ones that lift yet motor for parking ootside Greggs.
