Some good points but nothing really new. I have an issue with the whole perception of the English holding on to Scotland. Before I go on I am English, a nationalist and wholeheartedly support the separation of the Union, which is a historical legacy of greed on both sides of the border. My opinion is that it is about The British holding on to Britain, and whilst people may argue whether or not Scotland can stand alone, I'm sure that they can, as equally as the English could and maybe one day the Welsh also. The point is that the splitting two countries politically and economically will be incredibly difficult and incredibly expensive to all parties and I suggest that politicians and economists would likely want to avoid this, simply because it's easier to carry on as we are.

In summary it is not a question of the ability to stand alone, it is a question of whether the majority would like to and are prepared to vote YES.

The challenge for Scotland is to convince Scotland that t will work, I fear that The Crown and Britishness however is tattooed too deeply amongst too many. I hope I'm wrong.

Just another viewpoint. @northsidestokie

I don't think it will make much difference, it can easily be repealed buy a new government if they so wish. I think most people though are beginning to see through Wee Eck for the chancer he is and that's what's pissing them off!!

You can't really base an economy on IT and games, no matter how successful they are. I'm glad you didn't mention renewables, the biggest con out since Bernie Madoff said "Trust me" lol!! A small standing Army i can live with and it would be small, be in no doubt about that. The "Navy" would me fisheries protection and not much more.

You're right about the water though, fortunes to be made there, especially when there's a drought down south, lol!!

Nice ideas mate but ultimately futile in the long run re independence. Perhaps the SNPand especially the "Unionist" parties should think about staying in the Union and just working a wee bit harder at contributing to it?

I'm a bit more optimistic than that Mate. The Economy like the rest of the Worlds is stagnant just now but I like the direction we are taking in research and development especially in renewables, Bio tec, genetics, IT including gaming and publishing. They are the future money spinners and Scotland is well placed to capitilise on that.

As for a defence force I really mean Defence. A small standing Army and an expansion of the TA. A beefed up coast guard rather than an 'agressive' navy and one air base to cover search and rescue and air defence.

The reach of the health service is obviously tied to how successful the overall economy is. The Ace in the pack is not Oil or gas it's water an absolute abundance of it.

I think we're well placed.

All genuine questions Wullie but pie-in-the-sky when you get right down to it. Scotland will not be getting independence in our lifetime, and if it did, would become an instant Third World economy tied into Europe forever and all that that entails. Take away Trident, job losses; Free health care for all, couldn't afford it; Defence Force, aye right!! As for the rest of it, fantasy politics!!!
